Safety tips

Most deals go smoothly. These simple habits protect you from the common scams on online classifieds.

If you are buying

  • Never pay in advance. No token money, courier fee, “booking amount” or delivery charge before you have seen the item.
  • Meet in a public, busy place during the day, such as a mall or a shop, and bring a friend or family member.
  • Inspect before you pay. Test phones and electronics, check vehicle papers and the chassis and engine numbers, and verify property documents with the relevant authority or a lawyer.
  • Be careful with prices that look too good. A very low price is a common bait.
  • Pay only when you hold the item. Prefer cash on the spot. Be wary of anyone who insists on payment by easypaisa, JazzCash or bank transfer first.
  • Never share OTP codes, PINs, CNIC photos or card details with anyone you meet through an ad.

If you are selling

  • Never click links sent by a “buyer”, and never share an OTP or a code you receive by SMS.
  • A genuine buyer pays you, not the other way round. If someone asks you to pay money to “receive” a payment, it is a scam.
  • Check that a payment has actually reached your account before you hand over the item.
  • Meet at a public place. Do not invite strangers to your home if you can avoid it.
  • Only list items you are legally allowed to sell. See our Terms.
